Hoe to Write to Change the World
Saturday, May 3, 2014, 11–5pm
Words can be the most powerful tools we have. With them, writers have saved lives–even their own–and taken lives as well. They have brought justice to their worlds, started and ended wars, and transformed our very thoughts.
James Baldwin once said, “You write in order to change the world . . . The world changes according to the way people see it, and if you alter, even by a millimeter, the way people look at reality, then you can change it.” But what does it take to write to change the world? And with all the crossroads and hardships we are faced with every day, how can a single person make the world a better place?

Christal is an instructional coach with Atlanta Public Schools, and an accomplished creative writing instructor. In her spare time, you can find her playing with her dogs, tending to her chickens, and gardening.
“Christal’s gentle guidance and genuine approach to writing to get in touch with yourself, even if it hurts, has given me a place to always return to in my writing, a foundation upon which to build moments that are real and believable. Christal provided a safe place to explore those moments and gave us a clear structure with which to build our story.” –Barbara Seaton
