In this one-day symposium, well-known local actors Jason MacDonald of The Vampire Diaries, Catherine Dyer of The Blind Side, Claire Bronson of Army Wives and Scott Poythress of One Tree Hill and Drop Dead Diva will teach you what agents want, what makes a good (or bad) headshot, what casting directors are looking for, how to get work, and more!

Instructor Bios:

Catherine Dyer has built an impressive resume on both sides of the camera. As an actress she has worked in feature films with some of Hollywood’s biggest names. She played Mrs Smith opposite Sandra Bullock in the Oscar winning film The Blind Side, went toe-to-toe with Demi Moore as Sylvia in The Joneses, and shared the screen with Jennifer Lopez in What To Expect When You’re Expecting. Soon, Catherine will be seen playing the wife of Arnold Schwarzenegger in the action thriller Ten, as well as with Jake Gylenhall in David O. Russell’s Nailed. On television, Catherine has had recurring roles on Lifetime’s hit series Army Wives and the USA network’s Golden-Globe nominated Necessary Roughness. Her many guest-star appearances include Drop Dead Diva, House of Payne, The Gates, Past Life and Party of Five. Catherine spent seven years as Supervising Producer of A&E’s Biography, which garnered her a Primetime Emmy Award nomination in 2003.

Jason MacDonald made his professional acting debut on the soap opera Another World and he appeared on every New York based soap including As The World Turns, All My Children, The Guiding Light and as Principal Fletcher on One Life To Live. Jason’s New York stage work includes LaMama, Circle in the Square, Lincoln Center and opposite Frank Langella in the Roundabout Theatre Company production of The Tempest. Jason has worked extensively in commercials, industrials, print and voice over for twenty years. Feature film credits include Life As We Know It, The Family That Preys and The Joneses. Television credits include Necessary Roughness, Drop Dead Diva, House of Payne, Single Ladies, Magic City, Criminal Behavior and as Grayson Gilbert on The Vampire Diaries.

Since 2009, Claire Bronson has worked on over 75 films, TV shows, commercials, print campaigns, industrials and voice-overs. She’s had projects at the Sundance Film Festival since 2007, including the upcoming film A.C.O.D. with Adam Scott and Mary Elizabeth Winstead. She’s also shared the big screen with Steve Harvey in the runaway hit Think Like a Man. Starting off with a bang last year, she played opposite Lauren Ambrose in the TV mini-series Coma. Some of her favorite recurring television roles have been playing the impassioned Rachel Miller on Lifetime’s beloved Army Wives and the ill- fated mayor’s wife, Janie Kendall, on Alan Ball’s show Banshee for Cinemax. You can also catch her in past episodes of Drop Dead Diva, Necessary Roughness, and Reed Between the Lines . . . and watch for her in the Sundance Channel hit Rectify and ABC’s new pilot The Returned.

Scott Poythress has contributed to both east- and west-coast to stages, independent films, industrials, commercials, video games, television and star-studded studio films like What To Expect When Youʼre Expecting. In 2010, he worked with producers in Victoria, Australia, to voice 7 characters including the lead in the award-winning adventure video game, Jolly Rover. He has appeared on episodes of Revolution, One Tree Hill, Drop Dead Diva, The Game and Necessary Roughness. You can also catch him in the ʼ07 Sundance film festival favorite and Atlanta-lensed independent horror film, The Signal, which received the John Cassavetes Independent Spirit Award nomination in 2008. Heʼll soon be seen on the big screen again in Atom Egoyanʼs Devilʼs Knot alongside Colin Firth and Stephen Moyer.
